Computer Explorers School Year Teaching Application

Job Description:
Computer Explorers is hiring for a part-time job that's fun, interesting and flexible! We need enthusiastic
high-energy School Year Technology Teachers. You don't have to be expert with technology, but be comfortable with
it and have the desire and ability to learn. Experience with Elementary age children a must. This is a part-time
position, meaning that you may not be working on regular weekly basis. There are no guaranteed hours. Classes can
only be held when they have enough students enrolled. Your schedule will depend on your availability and flexibility in
driving.
We are also hiring assistants. Perfect candidates are high school or college students that love working with
children, or teachers who may be looking to work with kids without having to be the lead teacher during the school year.
We teach weekly classes in Movie Making, Video Game Design, Legos, and Robotics to students ages 3-15. We work with
local school districts, at over 100 locations throughout Minnesota.
Once you are offered a class you must refuse it or commit to it until the class is cancelled. If we do not get enough
enrollment, classes will be cancelled. Classes are not cancelled until 1 week before they are scheduled to run.
Teachers are usually required to transport class materials and equipment (in 2-3 plastic bins) to each site.
Class size will vary from 6-24 students, when there are more than 16 students we try to assign another instructor
to assist. Grades vary between K-8th grades.
Curriculum and Training:
Before teaching, teachers must complete 4 hours of online training on basic class management and leadership skills.
We also do a 1 hour employee orientation in our Roseville Office.
Training for actual classes, we will provide day by day curriculum to each teacher on their specific class. We also
provide teachers with all of the equipment they need to teach a class. New teachers will go through our step-by-step
curriculum independently in our offices, after being given an overview of the course. Preparation is done in our
offices so we can help as needed and scheduled by the teacher prior to teaching.
Training and equipment pick-up is done in our Roseville office. Exchange of equipment is done anywhere from every
2-6 weeks.
Job Requirement:
Must be able to teach classes that normally run one day per week for four weeks. Actual class time is between 1 and 2 hours per day Monday-Friday 2:00pm-5:00pm and about 3 hours on Saturdays 8:00am-12:00pm and 12:00pm-4:00pm.
Have a valid driver’s license.
Be very comfortable with technology and using computers.
Be willing to drive up 25 miles to teach a class.
You must have your own reliable vehicle that can transport equipment totes.
Ability to think on your feet and be creative to keep kids engaged, while teaching.
Be able to lift 35 lbs, you will usually have to transport 2-3 totes to each class.
You must be very punctual and reliable. Students must always be supervised.
You must be organized and efficient to run an effective class.
You need self-confidence, energy, creativity and are assertive enough to control a class of high energy elementary age kids.
You need to be able work independently and communicate via email and phone with us on regular basis and have reliable Internet access, and a cell phone.
