Students design, build, and destructively
test model bridges and towers. Structures strength will be tested with our
PORTABLE ELECTRONIC TREMOR SIMULATOR that mimics an earthquake.
Possible materials used in
class: Balsa Wood, Paper, Popsicle
Sticks, Knexs and Toothpicks. In this course, students learn the
principles important to building strong and stable structures.
Students will work and discuss
foundational elements such as material strength, the strength of different
joints and shapes, load, compression, and tension. They experiment to see how
the structures stand up to strength, mass distribution, and wave frequency
testing. Along the way, they will explore concepts in efficiency, load, wave forms, and more.
