Jiminy Crickets! The newest in robotics and programming fun is the
PicoCricket®. Developed by MIT Media Lab, the Pico Cricket is designed
for making artistic creations with lights, sound, music, and motion. It
is a tiny computer that can make things spin, light up, and play music.
You can plug lights, motors, sensors, and other devices into a Pico
Cricket, then program them to react, interact, and communicate.
This
course will combine technology and artistic creativity to allow
students to create playful inventions to amaze their friends and
family. The Pico Cricket is fun to learn, exciting to explore, and sets
no limits on the creative process. Students in pairs will design their
own creatures, sculptures or 3-D art, and then program the devices for
action! Make a cat and program it to purr when someone pets it. Make a
birthday cake and program it to play a song when someone blows out the
candles. Make a bobble-head with multiple heads that jiggle and jump on
command.
