If
you have a learner who likes building things and figuring out how
things work, they will love this class. Join us as we explore,
investigate & solve problems while we learn about the building
blocks of mechanical engineering. This exciting hands-on engineering
class combines LEGO® Education & LEGO® Technic™ materials to
explore motorized and self powered action machines by building
realistic models. Students will enjoy hand-on activities with
using LEGO® materials that include levers, gears, wheels, axles &
pulleys that incorporate math, science & creativity. Fun
action packed motorized models may include: cars, go karts,
merry-go-rounds, pulleys, drawbridges, roller conveyor, crane, and
more. Possible challenges and contest include: designing a custom
chair, creating a drumming mechanism, building the car that goes the
fastest or furthest, designing a land yacht, designing a better hand
mixer and more. The high emphasis on building techniques will develop a
strong understanding of mechanical principles. Concepts explored: rigid
vs. movable, 1st, 2nd, & 3rd class levers, force, effect, gear
ratios, gearing up & down, drive-trains, friction, roller &
ball bearings, pulley ratio, fixed vs. movable pulley and other
motorized topics. Students will also be challenged to solve problems,
encouraged to apply what they learn and come up with creative solutions.
